Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit যাতি (yāti, go; come), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yáHti, from Proto-Indo-European *yeh₂ti. Cognate with Sylheti ꠎꠣꠃꠣ (zaua), Bengali যাওয়া (jaoa), Nepali जानु (jānu), Hindustani जाना (jānā) / جانا (jānā).
