Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀔𑀢𑀺 (dekhati), from Sanskrit *देक्षति (dekṣati), probably from the root दृश् (dṛś, to see) but with contamination from ईक्ष् (īkṣ, to see) or one of its derivatives;[1] thus, partially related with দৃষ্টি (driśṭi) and অক্ষি (okkhi). Cognate with Hindi देखना (dekhnā).
