Ye'kwana[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From -jünü (noun negation suffix) +‎ ka (interrogative particle).

Pronunciation[edit]

Suffix[edit]

-jünka

  1. Forms a tag question, asking for confirmation.

Usage notes[edit]

In most circumstances this particle is found in the second position in a sentence (attaching to the first constituent). Occasionally, for unclear reasons, it may appear elsewhere. Unlike the negative suffix -jünü that forms its first element, -jünka can appear with words of any class, not just nouns and pronouns.

This morpheme is properly a clitic rather than a suffix.
