Etymology

Presumably from unattested *kjúk +‎ -lingr (diminutive), likely from original Proto-Germanic n-stem *keukô ~ *kukkaz (rooster, chicken). Cognate with Proto-West Germanic *kiukīn (chicken).[1][2][3]
