Revision as of 09:43, 17 June 2010
The English Wiktionary uses sysop-patrolling of Special:Recentchanges, so that vandalism can be picked off more leisurely. Known good accounts can be added to the "autopatrolled" group, so that their contributions don't appear on that list. Known good IP addresses can be added to User:Connel MacKenzie/patrolled.js. This "whitelist voting" page is a mechanism for proposing and publicizing the addition of a user to that group/script; the principle is to have as "lightweight" of a vote as possible without succumbing to any one person's whims. The existence and purpose of this page were made official by Wiktionary:Votes/pl-2008-09/Whitelisted users autopatrol; the details of its functioning are fairly well established now, but still not official per se.
Also see Wiktionary:Whitelist/transient and Special:Log/rights.
Procedure:
- One sysop nominates a name for auto-whitelisting.
- A second sysop approves the nomination.
- If the user is known by an IP address only, the second sysop should add it to patrolled.js. (No archive will be kept.)
- If the user is known by a username, the second sysop should add that user to the "autopatrol" group using special:userrights.
- If uncomfortable, or having difficulties, editing the .js file or adding the user to the autopatrol group, sign it "approved" and it will be taken care of - but make a note that you skipped the step.
- Any sysop can recommend a defer to a nomination; after a week, the nomination may be repeated.
Effect:
Once a name is added to the "whiteList" in the Javascript, those sysops (5?) who have enhanced patrolling turned on in WT:PREFS will start auto-marking these users the next time they refresh that Javascript, or restart their browsers. (The "autopatrol" group does this automatically without enhanced patrolling.)
Archiving:
Tentative guidelines are: remove entries here that are stagnant for two or more weeks. Remove whitelisted entries immediately, or after a couple of days.

- Not yet. Still way too new and inexperienced at Wiktionary. I had to alert him as to the fact that our IPA encoding required special characters. Most of his edits have been to fix that problem. A good candidate in a few more weeks, perhaps. --EncycloPetey 19:08, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
