[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *krawíṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *krawíš, from Proto-Indo-European *kréwh₂s, from *krewh₂- (“blood”). Cognate with Latin cruor, Ancient Greek κρέας (kréas), Proto-Slavic *kry, Old English hrǣw (whence English raw).
