Etymology
An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾwbʾhnl /āwahan/, “fortified place, stronghold”) and [script needed] (a-v-h-n-m /āvahanam/, “village”). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *Hwah- (“to dwell, remain”).
