Old Armenian

Etymology

An Iranian borrowing: compare Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾwbʾhnl /⁠āwahan⁠/, fortified place, stronghold) and [script needed] (a-v-h-n-m /⁠āvahanam⁠/, village). Ultimately from Proto-Iranian *Hwah- (to dwell, remain).
