svälta (present svälter, preterite svalt or svälte, supine svultit or svält, imperative svält)

  1. (intransitive) to hunger, to starve (to be the victim of famine)
  2. (transitive) to let hunger, to let starve (to refuse someone food)

Usage notes

The intransitive sense uses the strong conjugation; the transitive sense the weak conjugation.
