From หญิง (yǐng, woman) +‎ งาม (ngaam, beautiful) +‎ เมือง (mʉʉang, city), literally "beautiful woman of the city; calque from Pali nagara sobhiṇī (city's courtesan, literally city's beautiful woman), from which Thai นครโสภิณี was derived.
