Pollando

Etymology

From polo (a Polish person) +‎ lando (land), calque of English Poland.

Its popularity over the synonyms Polujo and Polio are likely an influence of the English language, and to a lesser extent non-European languages with English-derived names for the country, such as Chinese 波蘭波兰 (Bōlán), Japanese ポーランド (Pōrando), Korean 폴란드 (Pollandeu), Indonesian Polandia, Hindi पोलैंड (polaiṇḍ), etc.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [polˈlando]
  • Audio:(file)
  • Rhymes: -ando
  • Hyphenation: Pol‧lan‧do

Proper noun

Pollando (accusative Pollandon)

  1. Poland
    Synonyms: Polio, Polujo
    Meronyms: Bjalistoko, Varsovio
