The palatalized forms *-cáànò and *-cáànʊ̀ derive from the leveling of a morphological alternation in which the first consonant was palatalized in class 10.[1]
Etymology
Cognates outside Bantu include Tiv utaan and Proto-Grassfields *(í-)tàn and Efik tíòn
