Usage notes

In North Korea, the letter is called 된기윽 (doen'gieuk, “strong (g)”). In South Korea, it is called 쌍기역 (, ssanggiyeok, “doubled (g)”).

Historical usage

In Dongguk Jeongun(東國正韻), this letter was used to transcribe voiced velar plosive(/ɡ/) of Middle Chinese.
