Etymology

Borrowed from Franco-Provençal gicllar or Occitan gisclar, from Late Latin *cisclare, an alteration of Latin fistulō (to play the flute), which is derived from Latin fistula (flute). Compare Catalan xisclar and Spanish chillar.
