Etymology
Borrowed from Franco-Provençal gicllar or Occitan gisclar, from Late Latin *cisclare, an alteration of Latin fistulō (“to play the flute”), which is derived from Latin fistula (“flute”). Compare Catalan xisclar and Spanish chillar.
