Etymology

Wasei eigo (和製英語; pseudo-anglicism), derived from gal +‎ game. Equivalent to ギャル (gyaru) +‎ ゲーム (gēmu).

Now uncommon, largely superseded by the shortened version ギャルゲー (gyarugē).
