English

Etymology

Blend of Westgate +‎ Lockhart, surnames of the owners who owned the land where the settlement was built since 1912.

The original unincorporated community east of the present town, established 1902, is named Edson, after the Edgson family, who owned the settlement's land, but is renamed Edison by Irish immigrants after Thomas Edison, because it duplicated with another settlement along the Grand Trunk Railway.

Proper noun
