[edit]Etymology
[edit]From l-glyceraldehyde, old name of (−)-glyceraldehyde.
Prefix
[edit]L-
- (chemistry) one of two mirror-image forms of an isomer (enantiomer) derived from (S)-glyceraldehyde. Written in small caps.
Usage notes
[edit]The prefixes L- and D- for enantiomers are not the same as lowercase l- and d- for levorotatory and dextrorotatory isomers, although there is substantial overlap in the physical chemistry (that is, sometimes they happen to coincide).
