Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Persian احمدی‌نژاد (ahmadi-nežâd).

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (UK) IPA(key): /ˌɑːməˈdiːnəʒæd/, /ˌɑːməˈdiːnədʒæd/

Proper noun[edit]

Ahmadinejad

  1. A Persian surname, notably borne by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Usage notes[edit]

  • The use of "j" for Persian letter ژ pronounced [ʒ] is, strictly speaking, inaccurate, normally a digraph "zh" is used. Letter "j" is normally used for letter ج‏, pronounced [dʒ]
  • The hyphen "-" in the Persian transliteration "ahmadi-nežâd" represents an invisible zero-width non-joiner between letters ی and ن, which make the letters appear disconnected. Without it, they would appear connected - احمدینژاد.
