Etymology[edit]

From huēhueti, huēhuehti (to age, grow old) +‎ -qui. Attested indirectly in forms like the apocopic huēhueh, the plural huēhuetqueh, and derived terms like huēhuetcāyōtl (old age) and the diminutive huēhuetcātōntli (small old man).
