From Pre-Germanic *lh₂ewnom or *lowh₂nom (with laryngeal metathesis),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂w- (to capture, enjoy). Cognate with Latin lucrum (profit, foredeal), Ancient Greek λεία (leía, booty, spoils).
