[edit]Cognate with Old Church Slavonic вещь (veštĭ), from Proto-Indo-European *wekti- (“thing”).
However, Kroonen also compares *weganą (“to carry, to move”) (cognate with Proto-Celtic *wextā (“time, course, run”)).[1]
