Sindarin[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Modified from amrost (‘sunrise’) in Tolkien’s earlier conceptions of the language (‘Gnomish’ and later early ‘Noldorin’), from still earlier ambros, ambrost. Diegetically explained as am (up) +‎ rhûn (east, literally rising), and so cognate or formed in parallel to Quenya Ambaróna (Fangorn Forest, literally Eastern (Land)) and ambarónë (dawn).
