Etymology

Modified from canath in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’), itself modified from yet earlier cant in ‘Gnomish’. Diegetically explained as inherited from Primitive Elvish *kanatā, and so cognate to Quenya canta and Telerin canat.
