A Jewish (eastern Ashkenazi) surname, from a Germanized spelling of either Polish Aronowicz (“Aaron’s son, son of Aaron”) or Russian Ароно́вич (Aronóvič, “Aaron’s son, son of Aaron”). Cognate with German Aronowitsch (“Aaron’s son, son of Aaron”)
