Etymology

Borrowed from Latin Austria, a latinized version of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 1 should be a valid language code; the value "gem" is not valid. See WT:LOL. ostar (eastern) (< Proto-Germanic *austraz (eastern); cf. also Latvian austrumi (east)), in reference to this land being the Marchia austriaca (eastern borderland). The word was adapted to Latvian spelling ( +‎ -ija).
