Etymology[edit]
From Arabic بَنِي سُوَيْف (banī suwayf), which in turn comes from older form مَنْفِسُوَيْه (manfisuwayh) of Coptic origin (*ⲡⲙⲁⲛⲡⲥⲱⲟⲩⲁϩ (*pmanpsōouah) “gathering place” has been proposed).
