Etymology

From a substrate language, probably from Proto-Celtic *berwyā (compare Welsh berw (to boil)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *bʰerwyeh₂, from *bʰerw- (to boil).[1] Berbia is also the name of other rivulets in Galicia.
