Etymology
[edit]A spelling variant of Karine, with initial ⟨C⟩ in place of ⟨K⟩, and a variant of Carina with the ending -ine in place of -ina. Ultimately from Old Norse Kaðrina (“female given name”), a later form of Katrina (“female given name”), from Ancient Greek Αἰκατερίνη (Aikaterínē, “female given name”). The original meaning is uncertain, although the name was associated early with καθαρός (katharós, “pure, chaste”).[1]
Compare Danish Carine, Swedish Carine and French Carine (“female given name”).
