Prioritizing the creation of new pages

[edit]

I'm useless when it comes to creating new pages but wanted to suggest prioritizing the most commonly used roots, verbs, nouns and adjectives which haven't been added yet.

Right now we have ~4,000 vocalized Assyrian words and roots but we can quickly catch up to the coverage of other online Assyrian dictionaries if we go for the low hanging fruit.

@Antonklroberts - Curious how you feel about this suggestion as well as @Shuraya and @ܐܢܐ ColumbaBush (talk) 21:45, 14 June 2024 (UTC)Reply

From what I see, the large portion of these common roots, verbs, and nouns have been added, it’s just their derivatives that aren’t, because they are easy to define and less important to add once the base words is added (for example, shakinutha-warmth, an abstract form very easy to define without even needing an entry, from shakina-warm). But this is a good suggestion and I will definitely start to consider and add more common terms that are used! Shuraya (talk) 06:50, 15 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
thanks for hearing me out - im just parroting what people have told me.
yah i agree - let's focus on covering the most commonly used base words (and their derivatives when it makes sense)
on roots - if i go to all the verbs starting with ܒ i noticed about 1/4 have root boxes with 4+ derived terms but no page created for those roots:
  • ܒ ܛ ܠ
  • ܒ ܨ ܪ
  • ܒ ܪ ܟ
  • ܒ ܪ ܩ
maybe we can consider creating root pages for any root box with 4+ derived terms?

there's 787 verbs https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Assyrian_Neo-Aramaic_verbs, if 19/20 of those are amongst the 787 most used verbs then i think we're in good shape - maybe we can consider applying the 19/20 rule to verbs and nouns?

kind of a hot take but maybe we can consider how removing some of least frequently used words would affect the average word quality in the dictionary?

@Antonklroberts @Shuraya @ܐܢܐ

just came across this https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Discord_server - we should consider creating an #assyrian channel to collaborate

also it'd be cool to find more people who can contribute to assyrian wiktionary and eventually the creation of an assyrian language wikipedia https://aii.wikipedia.org/ ColumbaBush (talk) 05:17, 22 June 2024 (UTC)Reply
