Proto-Romanian

[edit]

Should we make a new reconstructed language called Proto-Romanian (roa-ro-pro) and use Romanian orthography for the reconstructions? Kwékwlos (talk) 19:08, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

For example:
*ad hīcce > *aice
*cavula > *gavră
*clubium > *kul'bu
*eccum illōc > *aculo or *acolo
*fētiolum > *fecioru
*imbibitō > *ămbetu
*inaltum > *ănlatu
*incaldēscō > *ăncăld̦escu
*indēnsō > *ăndesu
*ingrevicō > *ăngrecu
*iugastrum > *jugastru
*mana > *mănă
*norum > noru Kwékwlos (talk) 19:14, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
I see no benefit to it and it loses etymological information.
Moreover, is there any source which uses such a spelling for proto-Romanian/proto-Balkan-Romance? Nicodene (talk) 19:26, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_Romanian page lists some Common Romanian terms. Probably reference 25 or 26. Kwékwlos (talk) 19:36, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Never underestimate the power of Wikipedians to simply make things up.
Anyway it's fine as-is. Romance etymological dictionaries use etymological spellings. Nicodene (talk) 19:49, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
