The Pamphlets in the Tonga Language and An English and Tongan Vocabulary are printed before the 1943 orthography revision, that means all vocabulary is obsolete. How bad. They are still searchable but we have to check with modern use. (Tongan Wikipedia is a good place.) --Octahedron80 (talk) 03:25, 16 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have some observations that a word might be old orthography:

  1. It spells with B, G, J. Modern Togan uses P, NG, S instead.
  2. It spells with adjacent same vowel like aa. Modern Tongan changes it to aʻa or ā, for example.
  3. It uses overbar fewer than Modern Tongan uses. Some words have overbar today.
