English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Ancient Greek Δᾱμόκρῐτος (Dāmókritos), a variant of Δημόκρῐτος (Dēmókritos). The well-known philosopher bearing the latter name, Democritus, is occasionally mixed up with this lesser-known author due to the similarity of their names.

Proper noun[edit]

Damocritus

  1. A Greek author mentioned only in the Suda, whose work provides the earliest attestation of a blood libel.
