dendro- (tree, branch) +‎ chiro- (hand) +‎ -ida, literally hand-tree, tree of hands, ultimately from Ancient Greek δένδρον n (déndron, tree, branch) +‎ Ancient Greek χείρ f (kheír, hand) +‎ Latin -ida. Coined by German zoologist and arachnologist Adolph Eduard Grube in 1840.
