From ei- + -dor, based on names beginning with ei-, such as Eirik and Eivind; from Old Norse ei- (“one; always”) or ey (“island”). The suffix from Old Norse -dórr, an unstressed variant of Þórr. Cognate with Icelandic Eydór and Swedish Ejdor.
