From ei- +‎ -dor, based on names beginning with ei-, such as Eirik and Eivind; from Old Norse ei- (one; always) or ey (island). The suffix from Old Norse -dórr, an unstressed variant of Þórr. Cognate with Icelandic Eydór and Swedish Ejdor.
