From the former regions Emilia and Romagna, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin (via) Aemilia, the Roman road connecting Rome to northern Italy, named after the consul Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, and Romania, the name of the Eastern Roman Empire applied to Ravenna by the Lombards after the fall of the Western Empire and in the days when Ravenna was a city of the east.
