Borrowed from Ancient Greek Ὑστάσπης (Hustáspēs), itself from Old Persian 𐎻𐏁𐎫𐎠𐎿𐎱 (Vištāspa-, literally having free, unbridled, horses) and Avestan 𐬬𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬁𐬯𐬞𐬀 (vištāspa).
