Borrowed from Spanish Ixcuintepec, from a Nahuan language (equivalent to Classical Nahuatl Itzcuintepēc, from itzcuintli (dog) +‎ tepētl (mountain) +‎ -c (locative suffix)), calqued from a Mixe language (e.g. Totontepec Mixe Oc Cuvajcm, from oc (dog) +‎ cuvajc (head)).
