Etymology
[edit]Binomial compound of Lampropeltis f (“kingsnake, milk snake”) + New Latin elapsoīdēs m or f (“elapsoid, similar to Elaps-genus snakes”), literally “elapsoid kingsnake/milk snake”. The species is named as such due to its visual similarity to coral snakes, many formerly placed in the genus Elaps.
