[edit]First recorded in Brazil in the 1980s. Rendering of English Michael, having become popular due to Michael Jackson’s fame. The ending ⟨-on⟩ may be due to the nasalization of the original final diphthong /ow/ > [õw̃]. Doublet of Miguel.
