Luxembourgish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Eventually from Old High German meinunga, but borrowed from or at least influenced by German Meinung. The -ee- reflects the phonetic development of eastern Luxembourgish dialects (and of bordering German Central Franconian) in which the cognate of German meinen (to have an opinion) has the form meenen, rather than the general Luxembourgish mengen.
