Oddities[edit]
Āne-wātak {yanȩy-waytak} /jænʲej-wæjtˠæk/ is showing the phonetic transcription [ænʲeoæːdˠɑk]. Seems like the rounding of the /w/ is bleeding across the /j/. Similarly with Āne-wetak {yanȩy-weytak}: [ænʲeoɛːdˠɑk]. I would have expected something like [ænʲeːɒ̯æːdˠɑk] and [ænʲeːɔ̯ɛːdˠɑk] (ignoring the question of the precise realization of /w/), with the /e/ only affected by /j/. — Eru·tuon 23:23, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

@Gilgamesh~enwiki: Regarding [ænʲeːzʲɑɤe̯ɤːe̯], the current transcription of Āne-jaōeōe {yanȩy-jahȩyhȩy}: does epenthesis in /VGGVG#/ lengthen the first or second vowel? In /VGCVG#/ where C is a non-glide consonant, the first vowel can be lengthened, but in /VCGVG#/ the second, so it could go either way. — Eru·tuon 20:52, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
- It's not a question of which vowel is lengthened (as a sequence of two of the same vowel are a long vowel), but in this case which of two possible surface realizations takes precedence between two glides that do not share secondary articulation. For the most part, the code is set up so that a vowel between two glides prefers a surface realization colored by the glide on the right, but {h} takes precedence over {y} or {w} regardless of whether {h} occurs on the left or the right. It is done this way to avoid the possibility of a /ɰ/ glide surfacing as any of [ɑ̯ ʌ̯ ɤ̯ ɯ̯], because /ɰ/ is not permitted to surface as a glide at all. While most GVG sequences have the vowel's surface realization preferring the glide to the vowel's right, there are some exceptions to this (besides just preventing [ɑ̯ ʌ̯ ɤ̯ ɯ̯]), making it occasionally possible for a glide phoneme to neighbor only a vowel or vowels whose surface realizations disagree with the glide's secondary articulation. When a glide is "squeezed" like this, I've written it so that the glide surfaces phonetically. Better the possibility of [æ̯ ɛ̯ e̯ i̯] occurring than of [ɑ̯ ʌ̯ ɤ̯ ɯ̯] occurring. If there were no exceptions to the GVG-leaning-right rule, then Āne-jaōeōe might instead be [ænʲeːzʲɑeɤe] ([ænʲee̯zʲæ͡ɑɤ͡ee̯͡ɤ̯ɤ͡e], implicitly [ænʲeːzʲɑɤ̯eɤe]), which actually was the result in earlier module tests. - Gilgamesh~enwiki (talk) 21:47, 14 November 2019 (UTC)
