@Justinrleung: I get that it's a bit of a grey area. You can drop either syllable in regular speech, and it sounds fine, or you can use both together. The dog2 (talk) 19:30, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

@Justinrleung, RcAlex36: It's complicated, so I don't know. In the case of Mandarin, you can say 一塊錢 or 一塊, but you can't say 一錢. And in Hokkien, you don't say 一箍錢 or 一箍鐳. You just say 一箍. I'm not absolutely sure about Cantonese, but I never say 一蚊錢. For me, it's always just 一蚊. The dog2 (talk) 22:38, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

@The dog2: For Hokkien, 一箍錢 may be allowed in at least some areas of Taiwan. In Cantonese, you can say 三個幾銀錢 "three dollar and a bit" (and apparently also 三個銀錢 "three dollars" according to some sources, but it sounds weird for me), and yeah, 一蚊錢 is bad for me as well. — justin(r)leung _{{ (t...) | c=› }} 03:45, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
