客仔

[edit]

@The dog2: I don't think it should be here. 客仔 means "customer" AFAIK, and we have that at MOD:zh/data/dial-syn/顧客. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:33, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: So there is no dialect of Cantonese from China that you know of where 客仔 means "guest"? I was talking to some relatives and they said 客仔 is like an extremely casual version of 人客, while 客人 is very formal. The dog2 (talk) 16:37, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: I can't be sure, but in Hong Kong Cantonese, we don't use it for "guest" as in someone who's visiting you at home. Are you sure your relatives meant "guest" in this sense? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:39, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: OK, I guess it wasn't clear whether they were specifically referring to guests at home. It was just a very generic discussion. But they did say it is very casual, much like how Cantonese people often call their friends X仔. The dog2 (talk) 16:44, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: Yes, it's casual, but generally not used in front of the customer. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 16:57, 25 November 2021 (UTC)Reply
