Teochew

[edit]

@The dog2 Do you have a source for Chaozhou? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:20, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: See [1]. The dog2 (talk) 19:21, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: Hmm, that doesn't really explicitly say 色, nor does it explicitly say it's Chaozhou (for the definitions). What I understand <潮> to mean is Teochew (i.e. Chaoshan). — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:38, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: It doesn't say that explicitly, but 色 is the Teochew word for "colour", so for instance, red is "紅色", blue is "藍色", black is "烏色" and so on. So I think having a 色 at the back to represent colour can be safely inferred. And based on my observation, that web-site is primarily based on Chaozhou, but they do sometimes add notes when Shantou, Jieyang, Chenghai, Chaoyang, Puning, Huilai and Haifeng have differences from Chaozhou. If you look at the pronunciation for instance, the primary pronunciation they list is Chaozhou pronunciation. The dog2 (talk) 20:11, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: I just think we should keep inference to a minimum, even if it's like 99% certain to be right. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 20:17, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung: In this case, I'm 99.99% sure it's correct, but let's solicit others' opinions. @RcAlex36, Mar vin kaiser Any thoughts? The dog2 (talk) 20:22, 24 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Justinrleung, The dog2: Wouldn't really rely on that website, even though it's probably 赤色. They probably just pulled the definitions from a Teochew 字典. RcAlex36 (talk) 03:23, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Basic colour term

[edit]

@Justinrleung Just wondering, is "brown" a basic colour term in all Chinese lects? RcAlex36 (talk) 03:24, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

@RcAlex36: It probably isn't, but that depends on how you define "basic colour term". — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:27, 25 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
