拜拜 is not the same?

@Justinrleung: 祭拜 comes across as very formal. 拜拜 is more colloquial. But we definitely say something like "我今天要去廟拜拜。". And it's not only used in the context of traditional Chinese religion. People also use it to refer to a Muslim going to the mosque, a Christian going to church and so on. You don't necessarily have to offer a sacrifice for 拜拜 to be used. @Justinrleung: Oh, I see what you mean. Yeah, if you're just quietly saying a prayer at home, then people will say 祈禱. 拜拜 refers to going through the ritual, such as prostrating (though it can also be used to refer to praying at home if there is an altar). At least in Singapore though, if you are referring to a Christian, it is perfectly fine to say something like "他每個禮拜天都去教堂拜拜。". The dog2 (talk) 17:11, 7 July 2022 (UTC)
