Taiwan 琵琶蝦

[edit]

@The dog2, do you have a source for this? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:25, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: It did come up when I searched for the term in 臺灣閩南語常用詞辭典, where the Hokkien equivalent came up as 蝦蛄擗仔, but come to think of it, it might be referring to a different type of mantis shrimp, so I'm fine with removing it. The dog2 (talk) 03:30, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2: Yeah, it probably is referring to something else. 蝦蛄擗仔 is 九齒扇蝦, which is a kind of slipper lobster, I think. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:34, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Beijing

[edit]

@The dog2 How do we know that person is speaking Beijing Mandarin (as opposed to Putonghua)? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 18:55, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Justinrleung: I checked his Weibo page and he says he's from Beijing, but I guess I don't have direct evidence that it's dialectal. I heard some other videos by others, where people speak with 捲舌, and this word did not have erhua. The dog2 (talk) 19:00, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2 Having erhua is not the only thing that makes it Beijing dialect. And Beijing may have many non-Beijingers living there that may have a broadly northern accent. That's why Beijing dialect cannot be directly taken from videos unless they specifically say they are speaking Beijing dialect. Please do not add Beijing dialect based on videos. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:06, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@沈澄心 Do you have any dictionaries on the Beijing dialect where we can verify 皮皮蝦? The dog2 (talk) 19:14, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
@The dog2 I've confirmed that this should be the word used in Beijing based on a few books. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:15, 18 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
