- Z perspektywy administracyjnej „Patelnia” nie jest placem, jednak z punktu widzenia użytkowników jest nim w większym stopniu, niż wiele placów oficjalnych. Nieoficjalna jest również sama nazwa, którą nadali mu z właściwym sobie poczuciem humoru mieszkańcy warszawiacy. Plac zaczął żyć samoistnie i oddolnie, kwitnie tu handel artykułami pierwszej potrzeby: kwiatami, parasolami w czasie deszczu i rękawiczkami w chłodniejsze dni. „Patelnia” jest ponadto miejscem spotkań, aktywności agitacyjnej, reklamowej i artystycznej. Stała się również galerią sztuki w przestrzeni publicznej za sprawą współprojektanta wystroju stacji metra, profesora ASP Mirosława Duchowskiego. Studenci prowadzonej przez niego Pracowni Sztuki w Przestrzeni Publicznej już w 1998 roku zaczęli malować na betonowych zaporach zabezpieczających przed osuwaniem się pobliskich ulic. W pracach projektowych i wykonawczych murali uczestniczyło kilkudziesięcioro z nich, a ich prace pojawiały się cyklicznie. Dla wielu z nich „Patelnia” była okazją do zdobycia pierwszych doświadczeń artystycznych w przestrzeni publicznej. W ostatnich latach pod auspicjami Urzędu Miasta powstają tu murale związane z działalnością kulturalną instytucji miejskich.
- From an administrative perspective, the “Frying Pan” is not a square, but from the users' point of view, it is more so than many official squares. Also unofficial is the name itself, which was given by Varsovians with their usual sense of humor. The square began to live spontaneously and from the bottom up, and trade in necessities flourishes here: flowers, umbrellas when it rains, and gloves on colder days. The “Frying Pan” is, moreover, a place for meetings and agitational, advertising, and artistic activity. It has also become an art gallery in the public space thanks to the co-designer of the subway station's decor, Academy of Fine Arts Professor Mirosław Duchowski. Students in the Studio of Art in Public Space, which he runs, began painting on the concrete barriers protecting nearby streets from landslides as early as 1998. Dozens of them participated in the design and execution of the murals, and their works appeared periodically. For many of them, the “Frying Pan” was an opportunity to gain their first artistic experience in public space. In recent years, murals related to the cultural activities of city institutions have been created here under the auspices of the City Council.
