RHO

  1. (international standards, obsolete) Former ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country code for Southern Rhodesia from 1974 to 1980.
Synonyms: RH (alpha-2 1974–1980), ZWE (1980–present, as Zimbabwe)

Usage notes

[edit]

Despite the existence of the de facto state of Rhodesia upon the publication of ISO 3166 in 1974, its lack of recognition by the United Nations meant that the code instead referred to the de jure British colony of Southern Rhodesia. The code was, however, deprecated in favour of ZW upon the country's establishment as Zimbabwe, which did gain international recognition.
