Etymology[edit]

A synonym *welk- with a different coda velar appears to exist, whence Proto-Celtic *wolkos (rain, wet weather), Latvian valks (wet; creek), Old Icelandic valgr (wet, moist) and Old High German welh (wet; mild).[1]
