[edit]A synonym *welk- with a different coda velar appears to exist, whence Proto-Celtic *wolkos (“rain, wet weather”), Latvian valks (“wet; creek”), Old Icelandic valgr (“wet, moist”) and Old High German welh (“wet; mild”).[1]
