Proto-Kartvelian

Alternative forms

Etymology

Has been derived from Proto-Indo-European *tep-, but according to Starostin this is unlikely.

Gamkrelidze believes the opposite direction of borrowing to be also possible, due to entirely normal Kartvelian structure.

Root

*ṭep-

  1. to warm oneself
